Advancing The INSPIRE Vocational Open Online Course

As part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing the skill set of professionals in the European performing arts sector, we are actively progressing with the implementation of the INSPIRE Vocational Open Online Course (VOOC). This initiative is strategically designed to address the critical need for re-skilling and up-skilling professionals by integrating state-of-the-art practices in sustainable production, circular economy, and digitalization, while simultaneously fostering an entrepreneurial and resilient mindset.

Building upon the well-structured framework and curriculum outlined in prior phases, the VOOC is a comprehensive, modular course aimed at equipping both current and aspiring professionals in the performing arts sector with the essential knowledge and skills required to contribute effectively to a sustainable and resilient industry. The course is organised in 5 self-standing but also complementary modules.

Module 1 lays the conceptual groundwork for sustainability, introducing essential topics such as climate change, energy efficiency, regulatory frameworks, and the core principles of sustainable development. Participants gain a robust understanding of how to identify and address sustainability challenges within the performing arts sector.

Targeting professionals in the field, Module 2 emphasizes the integration of sustainable practices throughout all stages of production and operations. It delves into operational ecology, covering key areas like energy management for heating, cooling, water, and electricity. Participants learn to assess energy efficiency, manage air quality, and implement strategies for optimizing resource use. The module also includes practical guidance on adopting sustainable materials and promoting environmental awareness among stakeholders, including potential audiences.

Module 3 addresses the increasing importance of digitalization in the performing arts sector. It provides learning opportunities that focus on developing policies, creating safe digital environments, and effectively managing digital facilities. Attenders explore advanced ICT applications in sustainable production and gain insights into ICT-based training projects that are aligned with sustainable development goals.

Module 4 fosters the development of entrepreneurial capabilities, strategic business planning, management, and marketing, all through the lens of sustainability. Participants cultivate skills that enable them to thrive as innovators, leaders, and strategists in a rapidly evolving performing arts landscape.

The final module is dedicated to building essential soft skills for fostering respectful, safe, and collaborative working environments in the performing arts sector. Participants develop competencies in communication, collaboration, empathy, and leadership, preparing them to navigate challenges, manage teams effectively, and embrace change.

Through these five modules, the INSPIRE VOOC aims to equip performing arts professionals with comprehensive, actionable skills that will drive the transformation of the sector into a more sustainable, resilient, and future-ready industry. Further updates on the implementation progress and participant feedback will be shared in upcoming communications.
